Getting started with Reseller Hosting
We offer WHM ® access with our Managed VPS and Reseller hosting, allowing you to divide your resources among multiple websites. This is great for isolating multiple websites or offering shared hosting. We are going to cover some of the basics in this guide.
Accessing WHM®
There are several methods you can use to access WHM, the easiest being through our Client Area. You can also access WHM directly using the address provided in your Welcome email.
Creating Feature Lists and Packages
In order to create new accounts, we first need to setup our feature list and create our hosting packages. These settings allow us to create different levels of hosting. Feature Lists allow you to hide functionality you don't wish to offer clients, such as the PGP/GPG functions. Packages allow you to control the amount of resources allocated to an account, for example a non-profit hosting plan might not offer Addon Domains and Shell Access.
We provide a default feature list that enables everything on all of our servers, so if you have no desire to limit the available features, you can skip ahead to package creation. You will still need to create a package regardless of if you will be offering hosting.
Creating a Custom Feature List
- Navigate to the Features Manager under Packages
- Add a name for your feature list such as Default, you can always edit the features or remove them later.
- All of the available features will be listed by default. In order to remove a feature simply uncheck it.
- When you are finished, press Save to create the list
Pro Tip: If you open cPanel in another tab you can refresh it after saving feature list changes. The changes will show immediately for easier list creation.
Package Creation
- Navigate to Add a Package under Packages
- Enter a Package Name ex: Starter Plan
- Set the Resources you wish to offer with this plan. Note: Plans cannot have unlimited bandwidth or disk space. You must set a value of any size
- Select the Feature List you created earlier, or just use our Default list to enable everything.
- Click Add to create the package
Pro Tip: You can create multiple feature lists associated with different packages to create hosting tiers.
Adding Accounts
Once you have created a Package adding a New Account is easy.
- Navigate to Create a New Account under Account Functions
- Enter the New Account detail
- The domain should not contain the following: http://, https://, www., or /.
Examples: yourdomain.com, something.yourdomain.com, domain.co.uk - Enter a secure password or generate one
- Select one of the packages you created earlier.
- Enable SPF & DKIM if you are using the server email, they help with email delivery.
- Enter any other relevant information
- The domain should not contain the following: http://, https://, www., or /.
- Create the account.
Note: Account creation can take a few seconds, wait until it says completed.
You can now find and access the account from the List Accounts area under Account Information. In order to access the account you can use the direct cPanel link from your Welcome Email, or by clicking the cPanel icon.
Taking things Further
In addition to the standard features provided by WHM/cPanel we also provide Softaculous with all of our servers. You can customize Softaculous in addition to WHM, allowing you to put your own touches on the server. You can find the Softaculous settings under Plugins.
Automating your Hosting
If you are looking to sell hosting, automation is extremely important as you grow. We recommend WHMCS to take your hosting business to the next level. WHMCS is an all-in-one client management, billing & support solution. It helps to organize and automate every aspect of your business from the initial signup to account creation, automated invoicing, payment collection, support, and more.
